Palmgren Model 83, 8" cross-slide table

I purchased this at a local online auction last week ($60). If you look to the far side of the Palmgren table, you can see a round aluminum plate that was previously mounted to it. That made it nearly impossible to assess condition, thus the reason it sold so cheap.

Anyways, the body is in excellent shape but it's missing the rotary table handle and collar, a cross slide handle and collar, and needs 1 new cross slide main screw. I tried looking for parts online, but to no avail. If anyone out there has parts, or a cross slide table they intend to part-out, I'm interested.

That, or any help finding a source for parts (outside of Palmgren themselves who treat these like gold), I'd be grateful!

Brian

Brian--at the risk of telling what you probably already know, Palmgren made the same rotab for Sears under the Craftsman label--I've got one back in NY. Only difference was aluminum star type hand wheels rather than the nicer (IMO) crank wheels you've got. Hand wheels probably available thru McMaster or MSC.

If you paid $60 that's an incredible steal!!

Riley: usually when i see those they are waaaaaaay more than the cash I have on me at the time so sadly I haven't bought one. that said it looks like it would be a nice vise and i'm sure it would have tons of uses to a machinist.

good luck figuring it out and since i'd like to own one maybe in the future i'll follow along and see what I can learn.

Good luck on the repair.

Looks like a great, solid rotary table. I use my old News table regularly.

Thanks, Drives!

I got the impression from reading on Practical Machinist, Palmgren rotary and XY tables aren't too popular with a lot of guys. My guess is that they're using them for something they weren't intended for, but that's only a guess. This is going to be used on my drill press. Well, one of my drill presses, that is! This will be very handy to have for drilling precise holes in steel.

My only regret is that I didn't bid on some of the other ones in the auction. They all sold for $60-$100 each.
