Good afternoon - I got this Palmgren tilting vise with the purchase of a 20" WT drill press. It is HEAVY - maybe 75#. Jaws are 6-1/2" and it is 16" long - not counting the end of the screw. You can see it is rough shape. I'm not interested in keeping it. I'm looking to get some information about value before I invest a lot of time in cleaning it up. Ideally value in iots current condition and if it were cleaned up. Everything seems to work although I haven't examined it too closely yet. Any thoughts?

Vise prices seem to be very regional. Around here a 6" non tilt Kurt was listed at $600 on CL, don't know if it sold for that. Not sure how Kurt stacks up to Palmgren either.

Maybe check eBay sold listings, and your local CL?

Kurts have a cult following, because the patented design kept the moving jaw from lifting up when gripping the work. Until the patent expired, they were the only milling vise that could do that. Because machinists tend to be perfectionists, Kurt became iconic, and the prices reflect that. Kurt also has maintained their high quality, and still makes vises in the USA.

Palmgren is a respected name, but recently production has moved to China. Older Palmgren is desirable, but not like Kurt.

Leave as is and sell it.
Or you could give it a 20 minute wipe down and then sell it.

This vise has a screw with two collars - one I started to disassemble this Palmgren vise - got the tilt arms off, the plate under the moveable jaw, the large nuts on the pivot rod. This vise has a screw with two collars - both on the moveable jaw end. One is on the outside of the base and one on the inside. Both had taper pins through the screw - both pins have been removed. I got the outside collar off but am now stuck with how to get the screw out

Appreciate any thoughts/helpful hints you may have

Thanks
