I have watch few Youtube on how to put up exterior paneling and trim. Same applies to Hardie I believe. One way is to install all your trim boards first then wall paneling while leaving a gap of 1/8 for caulking and leaving 3/8 gap off Z flashing. Another way is to install all paneling then put trim boards such as corners over the paneling. Is there an advantage, one way over the other? The new guy that may hire to do siding wants to put up all paneling first then trim over paneling. I want a belly banding at bottom but I’m afraid that if trim is over paneling that water will get behind it. It’s Smart Siding trim and panels that looks like OSB, which I’m afraid it will absorb water. What are y’all thoughts on this?
Going for Board/Batten look

I dislike smartboard for swelling reasons. The installers never take the time to cut an angle on the top edge so water and snow sit there and eventually absorb and it swells and the framing rots out. I've been siding for decades and have done numerous repairs caused by "smartboard".

I hate hearing that about smart board, I work with Hardie putting it up on my house, which I dislike. Hopefully the installer will do his best. Thanks for input
