Paper dust mask

I didnt know where to post this so hopefully this is the right place. Anyways I figured you guys could give me some advice. We are working in a pretty small area doing a remodel that includes ripping down old plaster walls and insulated duct work. Lost of dust and fibers will be flying around and all the contractor will provide is a paper mask. I don't fell this is the proper mask for the job but what do you guys think? Thanks!!

Ps. We are working in a hospital, if anyone has ever worked in one you know that venting the dust out by opening doors and windows is not an option.

As a Person who manages hospital construction for a living you will need to follow all ICRA precautions as per the requirements of the Infection Permit issues by the hospital staff. Protecting you is one thing protecting the patients is another. You need to Vent out usin a HEPA box.

If you have no idea what I am talking about you or the hospital that your working in is setting you up for failure

If you are concerned buy a respirator. I bought a cheapo Harbor Freight one for sandblasting. It works surprisingly good and cost less than $20.

I use them for everything, you can buy different filters depending on what you're trying to protect yourself from.

I use them for sanding, painting, sandblasting.... Was using them yesterday to sand down trim and drywall for painting.

IMO - Those dust masks are a piece of ****.

I know wht your talking about and yes there is one running. But as we both know a mask is still needed. I am just an apprentice and was just wanting to know if I have a leg to stand on when I say no the paper maskes arnt acceptable and won't work until I have a respirator. Either suplied by me or them

I'd at least use a paper mask that has the vent on the front. That kind functions better than the straight paper one without the vent.

And I'm not relying on them. If I was I would just take the paper and work.

+2 on Tommy. A mask is as good as the fit. I guess I have a narrow nose at the top because paint would always be there. I will put a bit of a cotton ball or pad there to seal off the breach. Masks and beards don't mix. Bearded individuals need a hood.
