A friend recently passed away (really decent guy, one of the last of my fathers generation) and his Brother asked if I wanted any of his tools?
Most were of pretty average quality (if that!) and well used. To be honest the most useful thing was his store of nuts, bolts and screws, most of which were better quality than modern ones, which I gratefully accepted.
Then I saw this lying in a corner - a Paramo No.41 Engineers Vice! Got a bit of surface rust, and obviously been hanging around for a few decades, but I’m not convinced it’s seen much (if any) use.
I offered to buy it but the family just wanted the garage cleared.
These were top grade vices, and were made for years, relatively unchanged. Ironically, I’ve been kicking myself for not buying the last of these that I saw available new.
Watch this space as it undergoes a full restoration!
Only one question - I’m tempted to refinish it in a red or ‘extreme green’ enamel, but should I stick to the original colour (blue, but brighter than Record)?
