Paramo Vise #4 help, please

I just picked up this Paramo Vise #4 (4 1/2" jaws). Before I re-assemble it, I want to verify the simple spring mechanism. Besides the cotter pin (not shown), is there only 1 washer with the spring as shown in the image?

And, what is the purpose of the hole in the midpoint of the dynamic jaw slide? Squirt lubricant on the lead screw? It's only on the one side.

It doesn't have the swivel base; any help finding one would be appreciated. For $25, I couldn't pass it up.

Thanks.

I have a Paramo #1 (3" jaws). It came with a single washer that rides against the cotter pin. I added a hardened washer on the opposite end of the spring for smoother operation.

I have no idea why there is a hole in the slide. Lubricating the lead screw seems plausible. An extreme pressure lubricant is best for the lead screw. I use Molykote GN. Anti-sieze is commonly used by others.

I have a #1 and a #6, both are also equipped with a single washer, so I'm pretty sure that's the way it's supposed to be. ;)

Thanks everyone. I'll put it back together with the single washer. And use anti-seize since I have it.

It's a very nice vise. If I could only find a swivel base for it.

I've done a couple cleanups and painted but now, I'm leaning towards the old patina'd look.
