Prob a stupid question. The plate for my model 23 has chamfered holes along the perimeter. Assume this plate is secured to the top of my bench via these screw holes?

You assumed correctly.
a Bonney plate
The hardest part of mounting that vise is maybe finding a wood screw that was meant to be used.

Thanks much Akasrick! Thinking i'll use longer machine screenws with backing nuts/washers vs. wood screws. At least in some of the holes.

Now I need to stop buying these vises with Bonney plates and find one with the updated rotation mechanisms!

Some of those holes have probably been rounded already, They engineeried to what was available at that time.
I tried to find a #11 wood screw, was a typo on a web site.😂.
Some people like those Bonney style plates 😀.

So now I need to decide which vise to keep. One with the horn, one without. Really hard to read the model number on each.

I’m leaning to the hornless model as it has replaceable jaws. But, missing collar - which I will scavenge from another vise.

Which Would you choose? :)

I don't know why I looked for a #22 vise in the 1912 catalog and wrote 1916.

A # 23 in a 1876 advertisement.

Hoping my mistake doesn't influence your decision.
