I bought a Parker 271 1/2 vise today from a classmate. It's in good condition other than some paint drips on it. Jaws are okay, it screws in and out fine as well. A good cleaning and lubing will surely help a lot. I plan on cleaning it up and doing a nice paint job. Any suggestions on a color?

There's a ton of info out there on Parker vises, but I can't find diddly on the 271 1/2 machinist vise. If any of you know something about them, please share. Believe it or not, but my friend sold it to me so he could go buy a Harbor Freight vise with pipe jaws. He's pretty tight on cash right now, so I offered him $80 dollars for it. Not sure if that was a bad price or not, but I was happy to help out a friend and pick up a great old vise that will be used daily.

Pics to follow in a couple days.

any color you want. I blasted mine with wd40, hit it with a wire wheel, lubed it up with some lightweight oil, and bolted it to the bench. Has plenty of character without doing a deluxe paint job- this is my do-it-all, everyday vise. I actually use it- no point in painting it to me. Here's a before and after.

Thanks for the reply Dumper. I must say yours looks very nice with the bare finish. I suppose I'll see how mine looks all cleaned up before I make a decision on painting it. I found it humorous that both of ours had nearly identical paint drips on them!

nice everyday vise Dumper and Beater if yours looks like his then $80 is a great buy and it'll be a good vise for you for a long time.

i'm guessing the original owners used these old vises to hold their items to paint and maybe with a brush before spray cans because you have some old vises there.

Beater please post pics when you are able
