Just completed cleaning and painting this Parker 272 and I'm pretty happy with the way it came out.

Thanks to another member here, I was able to fabricate replacement parts for the dynamic jaw screw handle. Works great.

All is in good shape with the exception of a handle/bar for the swivel lock. Anyone come up with a good alternative for a new one? I know some of you have been in this same situation, so show me what you have done to replace the missing handle.
Thanks!

I have made several small handles for swivel clamps. Here are a couple of pictures of my clamps and radius dies I have made using a ball end-mill. After heating the ends up I use my punch die to hammer the radius on the bar end. I have to heat it up cherry red at least three times. Kind of primitive but it works for me. Clean up with a wire wheel and polish a little and they do not look to bad.

Nice restoration on your Parker.

I looked into it last year on a Rock Island I have that is missing the lock slider.

Let me do a quick search.

Thanks KM, that is kinda what I was thinking. Just heat up a short bar and peen over the end. Like you die, but I have no equipment to make something similar. Would just have to pound it to fit, and paint it to match... LOL
Do like the clamp idea. Hadn't thought of that.

Thanks 3J, appreciate you looking. Might be the way to go for me since I have limited blacksmith, or machinist skills.

Thanks to a recient post by Outlawmws, I have made a new lock nut handle.
The missing lock is simply a carriage bolt, and you can make a lock nut for it with an allthread coupler with the appropriate thread, and drill and say a 5" bolt and a jam nut for the lever.
grind the points off the head of the bolt, run it through the hole you drill in the coupler nut and seat a nut on, locking the threads up, Cut off the excess bolt threads close but not quite flush, and peen the remainder flat, grind the nut point same as the bolt head. and Bob's your Uncle.

I took a 7/16 x 8" bolt, slipped it thru the vise lock nut, applied a little lock tight to the threads, and jam tightened the nut. Cut off the excess bolt, ground the flats off both ends, and polished it up.

I think it came out pretty good, and will work great for my needs. Total invested $2 parts, 1hr labor. Not bad for a $50 vise! :rocker:
Thanks Outlawmws!
