Well at it again. I'm addicted to bench vises. Found this one on Craigslist for 30 bucks. It is cleaning up real nice. Everything in great shape.

Ruger: nice start. since you are a new member you might go in your GJ profile and put in your location in case you need area specific answers.

also if you get another rusty vise which might be the case you might check out this thread and fire up an electrolysis tank.

good luck on finishing this vise and maybe take a family picture with your other vises for those of us that like vise (vice) ****.

cheers

Drivesitfar. Thanks for the electrolysis suggestion. I have done a few that way. I just hit it with the wheel this time for a quick look and just kept going. Next thing I knew it was clean. Also I put my location in profile. I will update as I go.

Ruger: good to see you are liking old cast iron and anvils are a nice addition to any shop. even though a lot of guys and gals use their anvil for cold pounding on steel it's meant for hot so it will chip the anvil eventually. get a hunk of RR track for cold steel pounding.

also if you are planning on making some cool stuff Junebuggy started a blacksmith thread in the fabrication section i think you will like. i'm on it as often as possible just sucking up information.

any idea on the make of the anvil or specs if it's not for sale on Craigslist and you can say? pictures??

also if you go in your profile on GJ and click on Avitar you can download a picture to come up under your Ruger when you post that sits where my buffalo does.

cheers

Is that tag riveted to the static jaw tongue readable? Thats not factory, its probably the tag from wherever the vise spend the majority of its life.

Ruger: the anvil has a big chip off the top so probably would need to be re surfaced. do you know how big it is and how much it weighs? i'd pass if seller is firm at $150 and since it looks like it might only be a 70 pounder in pretty rough shape i might offer $50 if i needed one and I had the talent to restore it.

Did you finish up the Parker vise and any pictures?

Again. Just taped the jaws. Had at it to push the pins out but they were in tight. Didn't have rite size punch and the other things I tried bent when I gave them a wack
