Parker 954B. Any feedback?

Was dropping off some scrap and another guy was scrapping this. Gave him 10 bucks for it. It says parker 954B on one side and parker vise division/ union mfg co on the other. The jaws are 4 inch. Guy at work offered me $40 bucks for it. Is that a fair price to sell it for. Any opinions of the quality/value of this vise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't sell it for 40 bucks - as a user it's worth more than that. But - if you don't need a vise, and he's a good buddy, you'd quadruple your money, and he'd get a good deal, too.

Why steal it to just throw it away?

for the scrap money. maybe not much, but not a trace. how often has any of your scrappers seen almost new items thrown in the pile or should we start a thread on this and who is doing the throwing away?

Given the current state of our latest attempt at civilization, I'd say this is the most likely scenario .

Happy with the score. Where he got it from I have no idea. Had a truck load of all kinds of stuff from lower units of boat motor to big stainless tables. The place makes you give Drivers license for sales. So I let them handle any funny stuff. Guy seemed like a pro scrapper. Had an old truck with makeshift rails extending high off bed. People toss all kinds of stuff. Especially in some of the uppty neighborhoods.

The guy could have just been cleaning out his dads garage or a situation like that. I think its sad what gets thrown out just because people don't want to bother.
