I recently found what at first appeared to be a quality Parker bench vise at an estate sale. A few minutes of inspection tells me that it’s quite impaired, but the main problem I’m having is that I cannot find any information about it on the web. It appears to be a number 276, with an odd (at least the I’ve seen) attachment for the static jaw.
Any insight would be appreciated.

The static jaw isn't static. It swivels; the pin sticking up vertically behind it locks it in place. remove the pin to swivel the jaw ... only I bet a nickel it's thoroughly rusted in place. The dynamic jaw has been broken and welded back together for good measure. I hope you didn't pay much for it!
...but even with all that's wrong with it (busted slide for instance), I'd have been tempted at the right price just because it's a coachmaker's vise, not the much more common machinist's.
And of course, it's a double swiveler!

Don't keep us in suspense - how much did you pay??

I believe with that jaw profile, they were referred to as filer's vises. Which is like a halfway point between a coachmaker's and a machinist vise. Too bad it's broken.

I paid a whopping 15 bucks for it. And yes, that pen is locked in there nice and tight. I think I may get two or 3 inches of mouth capacity before I have to manually pull out the jAw.

Found this online and thought you might find it helpful (if not helpful, at least interesting...) :)
