I recently picked up a pair of nice old Parker vises, one a 974B. The thing has the cutest brass jaw overlays and I was wondering if anyone has seen any like this before and knows the story behind them.

They aren't brass, they are copper.
They are softer than the hardened steel jaws so you stand less of a chance of marking the work.

Nice vise.
They are copper so they won't mar up your work piece as stated above.
Are you sure they are the cutest? Because my Wilton 1780 has UHMW jaws that might be even CUTER!
