Anyone have a Parker Vise with 4.25” jaws? If so, could you see if your Parker vise’s Dynamic jaw and slide has the same dimensions as pictured? If so, could you tell me the model number of the Vise you have so I can try to source this from a donor parts Vise. Thank you in advance. It’s for a Parker 474 1/2 (but it has 4.25 jaws) which are pretty uncommon.

I am looking for the whole dynamic side of the Vise and my best bet will likely be a parts Vise. Since the 474 1/2 is pretty scarse I was hoping a more common Parker has the same dynamic jaw/slide.

The vise works fine the way it is but I would like to improve the aesthetics of it if I can.

The person I bought it off of had the jaw all the way out and forgot the handle at home and a crowd started to form around the vise so I bought it as is. I did get the handle the next day and that is when I noticed the issue. Its also missing the collar but that should be easy enough to source, I think the collar is 2.25" wide where it meets the vise.

If you have a Parker with 4.25 jaws please measure the dynamic side and let me know which Parker models may match the picture I drew so I can look for a donor vise. Thank you in advance for your time and efforts!

Have you contemplated shaping and welding or brazing a piece of cast on there? Mild steel would do too, but wouldn't have the same appearance. Easier than sourcing a replacement front jaw. A braze repair would look quite nice.

That vise is so different from most of the more common Parker models I'd be real surprised if the jaw from a different style vise would match up and replace. And that's ignoring the fact that Parkers seemed to almost have hand fitted jaw inserts, to the point where the jaw from the exact same model vise may not line up exactly the same. Suspect repairing your jaw is your best bet.

Fretters has the solution, braze a new donor piece in place. I agree with 454 since last year I had two 439's in my shop to build new jaws for them and said to my self, this is going to be easy since both are the same model. Wrong... It actually was a more difficult project then anticipated. Like all Parkers one jaw would not fit on the same vise model vise. Create a piece and pin it in place with a good braze joint like a mortise and tenon joint or a overlapping joint. Not a **** joint. Good luck.

If it were me I would mill out the bad section on a milling machine so that it was rectangular in shape and then attach a replacement piece by either brazing as suggested above or by using pins and long screws from the underside (assuming the wall thickness of the piece will allow it).

Awesome input guys. Now I need to find someone local with the expertise to braze old iron or I like the idea of pinning a replacement piece from an aesthetic point of view. This will not be a user since I have a growing number of other vises I can use.

Cheers guys.
