I acquired an 1854 Parker vise-What does the No. 1 signify whcih is cast into the side of the vise? Any help is appreaciated as I was unable to learn this from the info on this site as of today,

I have that same vise (C Parker #1) in my workshop and use it on the reg. I love it! Great OLD vise. I wish it looked like yours!

Looking at the catalog page posted on page 355 of the giant vise thread, I'm guessing #1 signifies a fixed mount machinist vise, no swivel base. Looks like you add a zero and the jaw width to get the model #. So if your jaws were 4" wide, it would be a 104.

Nope its a No. 1. so model 1!

Can't believe the old Pat. dates on that puppy!

My No. 0000 is from the late 1890's to about 1915, and yours will predate that considerably I'm sure! (The others in the stationary line had numbers that were 0000, 100, 200, 300 etc. The swivel base models had a "2" in front of those numbers... 2000, 2100, 2200, 2300, etc.)
