I'm looking for the pieces that would hold the front plate on when the top lid is shut. Here are two pictures the close up show the open slot that is missing the piece that would be forced down to grab the front plate when the top is closed and hold it in place. Is this a common part from Snap On? This is for a 1941-46 K-55-W Top Tool Chest.

A box that old, you will probably have to fabricate that part.

Any help on what I would need to fabricate would be great. Has anyone on here made these before. I have a general idea of how the part functions but don't know really know where to get started. :dunno:

Thanks,

Brian

Looks to be flat stock with a 90* bend at the top. Pads in the lid push those pieces down into slots in the front to lock it in place. Those pieces are also spring loaded, so you'd have to figure out that arrangement too.

Many tool boxes use a round rod to do that. Have a look at present day boxes to get more ideas.

Something similar to this.

Thanks for the response. Link just went to a web page but didn't have anything related to this on it. The flat stock part wont be too bad. I just have to figure out what the spring mechanism needs to be.

That Lee Valley page shows how yours works.....just round rods.

"Tool Chest Locking Spring Pins" at Lee Valley, if that page was blank...my links work OK.

That time it worked thanks for that link. Now what I need to find is a spring loaded slide lock that is flat stock. At least I know what I'm looking for now! Thanks!
