Part gloat, part question.... Devilbiss paintgun

Well, lets get to the gloat first...
Yesterday I bought a Devilbiss gfg-670 plus paint gun at an auction for $5.00.

Ok, now that thats done with... Does anybody have any input on the gun?
What do you think of it?
I would hope it's pretty good considering what new ones cost, but has anybody actually used one?

Hey Kirbot, I would usually tell you that you ****. I would in this case tell you that you really really ****. I would hope you took that as a compliment, because in this case you sucking is related to you scoring a $300 paint gun for $5.
But since I'm a bad boy I don't get to cheer you with accolades of suckage.
All I can say is I really wish I sucked as much as you do.

You could easily turn it for 150

Oh and yes I have used that gun.

That gun *****. I would rather have a HF gun any day. In fact, I will buy you a brand new HF gun for that one........


OK, OK! The truth..... It's an outstanding gun with about a $270 used value. With all the extra nozzles, You can spray any automotive coating needed.

I know of many painters that make their living using that same gun and are very happy with it. It's a great, dependable gun with good atomization and fairly low air requirements. Parts are also cheap and easy to find locally.





People do strange things with spray guns. Most get abused because the PO don't know how to take care of it. Anytime you buy a used gun like this, you want to check it out before you use it.
Take the gun completely apart to clean it. (lacquer thinner will work fine) Check the parts diagram for any missing seals or parts and consider purchasing a "rebuild kit" from Devilbiss (approx $35). Rebuild kits come with all the seals and correct lube to get the gun back to factory specs.

BTW: That is not the "ace's wild" GFG like the case says. Its just a normal GFG. The ace's wild GFG gun is black with a joker on the handle, and has a matching cup that says "ace's wild" on it in big red letters.
It's the same gun, just without the finish and collectors price tag.

Hmm....
Since you mentioned that, I took a closer look at the gun itself, and I'm realizing it doesn't say gfg-670 plus on it anywhere....

Now I'm a little concerned...

It DOES say GTI and PI-7 Bar

Is that a different gun?

GTi is a different gun to the Plus but essentially the same basic gun. I have both & they're both great guns. The main difference is the number of holes in the tip. Looking at the 5 visible in the case it seems you have 3 GTi tips (many holes) & 2 Plus tips (fewer holes) & whatever is actually on the gun right now.

I have the Plus (gfg670) and it is a fantastic clear gun. Does other things well too, but it really excels with clear. I did notice it wasn't the Plus gun from the pictures showing "GTI" on the handle. Similar guns, but the GTI is an HVLP and needs 12-16 cfm @ 30psi where the Plus is a compliant gun and needs 9-11 cfm. Either way, you got a screaming deal.

You could scrap the thing for $5

The regulator is near $50 with the gauge.

If you go to the ******* mansion for a no limits all access party, are you gonna complain that the beer is only 33 F and not 32.5 F?

It's a Devilbiss GTI with three tips, and there just happens to be two tips for a Plus in the case with it.
OK, is there any point to hanging on to those two tips?
Is there any reason to try to use them in this gun?

GTi is a different gun to the Plus but essentially the same basic gun. I have both & they're both great guns. The main difference is the number of holes in the tip. IIRC the nozzle combo's is the only difference between the GFG and GTi. The GFG is more of a clear coat gun, where the GTi is a base gun. Since it looks (need nozzle part numbers to be sure) like you have both sets of nozzles, then basically you have both gun set up's.


Either way, that gun will spray any almost any coating great. And I agree, ANY Devilbiss gun is a steal for $5. Even a broken Startingline is with $5 for parts.

Kirbot, the stainless nozzles are worth about $30 each minimum. The thing should have been $500 even as a used.
Did I playfully tell you that you do in fact ****? You did fantastic, must be very uncomfortable walking around with that horse shoe in your ****.
