Four of these fasteners hold shut the doors on my cold air return hvac ducts. They are more than 30 years old and three are broken. I’ve been to three hardware stores with no luck at identifying. Any idea what they are called? Thank you. IMG_7314.jpegIMG_7315.jpegIMG_7316.jpegIMG_7317.jpeg

Snap in nut. These days, they are typically made of a new wonder material called "plastic."

I don't know how you guys are saying they are snap in nuts. I don't see a hole for a screw.

Seems to me Whitesco got it covered in post #2. Looks correct to me & the application is similar.

I thought the original pictures looked metal but I guess they are nylon.

Snap in nuts or square plastic rivets - they all do the same thing. Go in the square hole and then expand.

Whitesco is exactly correct. Did you follow the link he provided?

The main body pushes into the hole then the "head" is snapped into place. The slot allows you to quarter turn the head to release the part without breaking the fastener.
