I've been looking for an older drill press lately and it got me thinking about parts availability. I found this one close to me:

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/tls/5455036582.html

But it's missing the motor and motor pulley. I'd like to restore one and get it back to full service but I'm not aware of where to find the needed parts or if its even worth it to try. Seems like a lot of these old presses are missing a thing or two. This guy is high on price IMO but that I'm guessing he'd take a much lower offer.

If you're not brand specific, motors are a dime a dozen and you can order pulleys new. If you want oem parts, you'll need to cruise ebay and vintage machinery site and the classifieds here for parts.

WOW - you guys are frugal - for $90 i'd be introducing it to my shop already. Vintage motors are readily available (and pulleys too I believe). go get it and bring it back to life.

It's missing the motor mount and that's an expensive part to source unless one gets lucky.

As to price, I had difficulty getting $100 for a mint, working DP220 bench model.

I agree that it's a little rough for the money considering all the work it needs just to clean it up, and a motor.

If it was your Grampas then that another story. You would have to fix it.

Thanks for all the advice. I don't see him coming down far enough on price to make it worth the money to me. I didn't notice the motor mount part either. I do like this model of drill press so I plan to keep my eyes open for a working condition one to restore/use.

I would say try to get it cheaper, what have you got to loose.
this fellow was asking $150.00, I wrote, and said,
"I would like to offer $75.00."
He wrote back, and said, OK, for $75.00 you have a deal.
As stated, any motor will work. (1725 RPM)
never hurts to offer less, but to be honest, I would pay $90.00 for that one.
