I've got all the stuff for a parts washer (not much needed... a metal tank!)
but wonder what is used for the fluid pump? I'm probably going to use a water based solvent.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
John

My Northern parts washer came with a pump that had instructions showing typical installation in a fish pond....

My pond pump has been working fine all summer with mineral spirits. Came with HF parts washer unit. But instructions for pump were all about a "fish pond pump". And those instructions said to not use pump with anything but water..."NO solvents". I suspect that may have had to do with legal ratings, liabilities, etc.

Believe me , that little "no solvents" statement wouldn't protect anyone from anything in a product liability suit revolving around a pump shipped with a solvent tank. While I'm not an attorney, I do work in the electronic design and manufacturing industry and we're often drilled on legal/liability concerns.

I'd chalk it up to the fact that HF sells junkie stuff that's often not suitable for its intended use, but has a good staff of lawyers.

I think I have an extra good, working, used Little Giant pump around here. Let me find out the model no. if you're interested.

Usually that's because the solvents cause swelling in the seals.

I assume the same thing. But when I asked that question of other GJ forum folks, a couple of them answered that they had been using the cheapo HF units for years. So, I decided to give it a try, and see what happens. If (when?) it fails, I'll get a higher quality pump to replace it.

Good cheap pump, is an oxymoron. I've been looking for a cheap Flotec for months, but my idea of cheap and good haven't intersected with price yet. HF and others I think sell the same stainless steel "bilge" pump, but its 12v, and dubious quality.

A swap meet electric fuel pump with a small valve in line to set the flow to the desired amount.
