Now I searched on the boards here and read through several post but didn't find the answer I was looking for. I got my new 40 gallon washer in tonight and from reading on here and a few other places I bought a 5gal of Purple Power Degreaser that I've used before while cleaning and pressure washing cars and liked it. I looked right at it on the label but it did not register that it has several detergents in the mix. As my parts was soaking I realized that they got a slick detergent film even after being cleaned that wouldn't come off without washing the part down with water...which ***** I don't want to have to wash my parts after I pull them out of the WASHER:wtf: Anyone else have this problem with any cleaners like this? I spent nearly $30 for the 5gal and hate it because of that. Planned on something simple like mineral spirits and such BUT the Clarke washer I have is a water based unit so I know I'd be replacing the pump before long....any other ideas:headscrat

I don't know, man. I always viewed a parts washer as the place to get the majority of the gunk/grease/grime/sludge/oil off of a tool or part. But then I'd always do a final rinse with water.

It's like, if you were filthy and took a bath, would you just step out of the tub and put your fresh clothes on? Heck no, you'd take a quick shower first to wash off the last layer of gunk from you sitting in a tub of your own filth while cleaning yourself!!

I always wash the **** off in the parts washer, and after everything is clean take it to the sink to wash with soap and water.

Simple Green Pro HD- home depot, $14/gal

Or if you wanna be a real badass you could buy the similar Simple Green Extreme for $30/gal, i use that for degreasing sensitive components.

PPC crud remover is insanely powerful but slightly corrosive. I have also heard good things about Schaeffer's Citrol **** I haven't used that.

Stoddard Solvent is really one of the only things I would consider in a parts washer. I have used other people's washers with stuff like Simple Green, Purple Power, etc and none of that works very well IMO.

Not to mention the water will rust out your barrel after a while and if you don't heat your shop it will just be a block of ice.

I tried several non-solvent cleaners.
Bottom line, when I put in my 'new' parts washer, I filled it with ten gallons of Stoddard Solvent.

Just because it works.
