What are you guys using for the power cord pass through grommets on Drill presses and other power machinery.. Only ones I can find look like they are for thinner sheet metal, where the drill press wall is almost 3/16-1/4 inch thick. one of the grommets I have is trashed and I would prefer it to look nicer.

I haven't bought a kit for a whIle but the one I have has some 1/4". If it doesn't have exactly the right one I'll use a piece of hose with a bigger piece of hose inside and outside the housing. Then silicon. Anything that works as long as I don't have to go shopping.

I use a suitable sized cable gland, virtually all the old machinery I get hold of already has them fitted.

I was looking at them but the drill press has a pair of 9/16" holes for the wires and the glands that would fit the cables that I have found would require a larger hole and I don't really want to drill out the machine.

If they have such a thing I agree that would look clean

Are you looking for a rubber grommet or a strain relief? The company that makes so many of the snap-in strain reliefs that their name has become generic for the product is Heyco. They are specd by range of cable size, diameter of panel hole and thickness range of the panel. If you go to their site you should find the one that fits. Then google the part number and you may luck out but electronic distributors like Mouser, Arrow and Newark carry a lot of their line, even Amazon has some of it, as do some surplus places and ebay. Ideally, the hole should have two flats to prevent the relief from rotating but a round hole will hold fine. It is not a hand tool and nobody is twisting the cable and they usually grab pretty tight, anyway, if sized correctly. 3/16 to1/4 should not be a problem. If you can't find the info., post the wire diameter, exact hole size and thickness and I will see if I can come up with the number.

I've cut the insulation off of wiring scraps and used them as filler to build up the diameter I need.

The name I'm trying to recall is Hubbell Kellems I think. Compression fittings with a range of cord sizes, the other end is a conduit size. They are straight or right and maybe 45.

If the hole isn't a true conduit size I'd pull out the cord and use an "oops arbor" on a holesaw to straighten that out.

Now you will have a true strain relief which is much more fluid resistant.

This is on eBay. Pretty close to 9/16” grommets that were original. You be the judge!

I love the look of them but don't want to drill out bigger holes.

It's kind of a pain, but if you freeze the rubber with dry ice it can then be worked down to shape like wood.
