No personal experience here with them, but I always thought they were a gimmick. After reading some of the posts here, I see that I may be wrong. Great thread guys!

If you get the larger CM set you also get about 20 hex and torx socket bits that go with the ratchets, along with the sockets and various other attachments. I picked up the ~80 piece set for around $44 on a DOD several months back. These sets can be used anywhere, not just on long studs and low clearance areas and the added bit sockets only increase their usefulness.

Get the chrome 6 point though. The "spline drive universal fits anything and everything and more" sets are the gimmick, IMHO.

I use them for low-clearance situations more than I use them for their pass-through design.

Disco 3/LR3 ARB bolts are slightly recessed so need a socket on them. The workshop manual calls for the body to be raised off the chassis to provide the clearance but my 'Vortex' set has them off with the body in-situ. Other techniques can be use but this is the simplest way to get a six-point on the job.

Bought the craftsman set of these for the strut nut on a minivan, as well as sway bar links as shown in 6speeds photo. The set was worth the $35 for that job. Good thing is even though its cheap, I don't think I will be needing them very often. But as I said for recessed strut nut and the like, worth its weight in gold. I'm sure I'll also find other uses for it as time goes on.

As a maintainance man in a 100,000 square foot shop these are my daily driver. I don't want to go a quarter of a mile back to my box to grab this or that all the time and have found these to be absolutely invaluable.

I have a set in 3/8 and they are usefull now and again but 90 percent of the time a ratchet wrench is as good or better . I also have a set of the snap on 1/4 drive low profile ones , as far as the pass through part on those they are worthless as they have a 1/4 square drive inside them and the stud on most things you would use them on wont go through but as a low profile that set has limited use also .
