Folks,

I am looking for a pass-thru ratchet set that is similar to the one that the guy is using in this video:

I would like a set that includes deep metric sockets (10-22mm).

Can anyone make a recommendation?

Thanks.

With a pass-thru set, do they really have to be deep? The pass-thru set I have, Gearwrench, has extensions that will give you basically a deeper socket.

What you're seeing in the vid technically isn't a pass-thru set, it's a shock-absorber tool set, kinda like this

Why not just get a regular pass through set and use one of the supplied extensions? Deep pass through sockets are completely unnecessary. The only reason to have a deep socket is to give more clearance to long studs sticking out. Pass through sockets have no issue with studs of any length. If you need the extra reach of a deep socket, the pass through extensions will do that.

Unless I'm not understanding what the application is, I would just go that route. I've never heard of deep pass through sockets until I watched that video.

As mentioned above - Pass thru ratchet and socket system eliminates the need for deep sockets.

I'm interested in knowing what set was used in the video. It would have been invaluable for replacing the entire front suspension in my Jetta this past weekend.

I see a logo in the video, but I don't recognize it. Looks like MSS, tried searching along with other variants without any luck.

I did not realize that "shock absorber tool sets" existed....thanks!

I found this one:

Think this is what I am looking for.

I did not realize that the set included extensions. I guess I would just need a longer hex/torx bit to hold the center rod.

These are what I use. They're priceless for strut replacement/repair as well as being generally useful in other efforts.

Thanks! These responses were very helpful. I almost pulled the trigger on the Max Axxess set (pretty much the same as Gearwrench) when they were being clearanced out at Sears. Having ratcheting wrenches and full sets of 1/4"-1/2" drive shallow and deep, I really couldn't justify the purchase.

The only downside to the Gearwrench style is the inability to use a torque wrench with them.

The max axxes sets are nice because their lower profile than a standard shallow socket and ratchet combination fl80 and a shallow socket vs the latter there a good 3/16 inch less in thickness so they do fit in quite a few more places and they definitely give you a better bite and then a ratcheting wrench almost 100% of the time I use them for their low-profile and almost never for the pass threw feature maybe a handful of times

In your basement...seriously, go look now!
Be careful about the Max Axxess sets because some of the chroming on the sockets is poor - the actual sockets hold up nice and fit well so you are only sacrificing style for substance. I like them because they have a six point version and a universal version, neither of which are both SAE/metric like Kobalt's Xtreme Access - the sockets just don't fit as well.
