Maybe not a huge deal to most but I did all the wiring myself, with the assistance of a few people here, you tube videos and internet searches. Thank you to those of you who gave me sound advice!

Next question. I need a fan for my 12' ceiling. So many options out there, looking for suggestions. Either in white or stainless, doesn't need any lights. Ideas, experiences welcomed!

Thank you!

Wife want new ceiling fans in the house? Buy her something nice and spray the old ones white. I have two in stored in the attic of my house waiting for when i finish the electrical in my garage. If the old house ones have lights you can get a blank off plate to delete the lights.

I've had casablanca and monte carlo fans and aside from casablanca not living up to warranty when the thing crapped out I was generally satisfied with them.

I was contemplating something like them or a hunter in the $200 range for my garage until I came across a Kichler 60" voya fan at Building Materials Outlet (recycler) that was still brand new in the box for $143. The thing is, they were also clearing out their electrical so I got it for half that; $85 out the door!! This is a nearly $700 fan - Yes.. I **** :)

In any event, I wondered what made this fan worth 3x the other fans. DC motor, can change direction from the control instead of climbing a ladder, 6 speeds, even the lowest speed puts out more CFM than my $200 fans on high, and dang is it quiet! It was also significantly better engineered.

So long story short, cheap will work but if you want to move some air take a look at the pricey models and hopefully find something on clearance.

Is this in the garage (after all, this is a garage forum) where you want something industrial, or is it in the house where you want decorative? What are the dimensions of the garage or room?

I put a couple of these in my workshop: https://www.amazon.com/Westinghouse-Lighting-7861400-Industrial-Three-Blade/dp/B001B1C8Q6/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=westinghouse+industrial+ceiling+fan&qid=1568743764&s=gateway&sr=8-4

The 5 speed controllers are a bit clunky looking and it takes awhile to get the fans up to speed but they are reasonably quiet and move plenty of air. Overall, I'm happy with them.

I have three of these same fans in my shop. They were inexpensive, and work pretty well IMO. I ditched the clunky/huge/ugly provided speed controller in favor of a typical household type speed control, but recently just deleted that for a on/off switch. I discovered that after a few years of use I never used the fans on any speed other than max.

One tip on these fans is to use a long drop to get it down closer to where you need it. In my case I used a 6' long section of 1/2" galvanized pipe.

Lowes and I'd imagine Home Depot, offer two types of installation kits for ceiling fans, new construction or older type. You need the one that is mounted to a cross bar in the ceiling from the kit,do not rely on the original(if you have one), ceiling box for the light installation,to support a fan....

Make sure it's a good metal box ,mounted to something solid like a couple 2x4s between ceiling joists if you cant land it right on a joist.

Bottom line...any fan at the big box store is garbage...Hunter, Casablanca, Hampton Bay...all of them are ****. If you want good quality fans look at Emerson, Kichler, and Minka Air. Big *** is good if you have a large space with really high ceilings.

This.

I had Hunter, Hampton Bay, etc...in my house and while they worked ok for a year or so, they pretty much got noisy after the warranty period expired. I broke down and bought an Emerson fan with DC motor and haven't looked back. Dead silent and it moves more air than anything I had previous. Have since added two more of them. They are far from cheap but sales do come and when the annual operating cost is ~$6 a fan, it's a little easier to fork out the bigger bucks.

Cheers.

And a lot of money...:D

Oh, yeah!!
But if there are 20' ceilings or higher, their performance is impressive. All of their other products are junk, but their large ceiling fans are good.
