Passing NM-B through box with no terms?

Hiya,
Still working away, slowly, on my garage wiring. One question that popped up over the weekend is this: Can I pass an NM-B cable through a receptacle box without terminating it/removing the sheath? I have a place where I have a receptacle directly below another box and the wire is feeding from above. For clearance reasons, I can't pass behind the box so it appears my options are to either pass through the box or go around it. Thanks for any input as I wasn't able to locate anything specific to this in the code.

I don't know why not in code, but I think it'd be better for maintenance purposes to go around it.

I would go around. If you ever need to remove that box, it's going to be a serious PITA. You'll have to hack up the box, and then the wire will be behind or around a new box anyway.

Good points regarding the possibility of maintenance/replacement of the box it would pass through. Thanks much as I hadn't really considered that. Cheers.
