Patching Epoxy Floor Damage?

I have an epoxy floor that has flakes and clear coated. I have two small areas about 1" square that chipped up because the person who did the epoxy work epoxied my floor drains covers in and I chipped the epoxy breaking the drain covers loose. How would I best patch this? I see www.epoxy-coat.com has patch kits. Do I need to tape off these small areas and sand? etch? Will there be problems adhering where the patch overlaps the original epoxy clear coat? any suggestions would be appreciated. By the way, going after the installer for epoxying my floor drains in will not be an option to fix it. He seems to think sealing these drains in is normal I guess.

I would scuff up the area surrounding the damage with sand paper, maybe an 80 grit to break the surface and create a "profile" in the existing coating for the new product to mechanically bond to. Make sure you can feel some texture. Remove the debris before application. Try not to over-lap too much, as this may create a noticeable color difference since it will be like an extra coat of material there. Make sure the concrete under the damage is in good shape, not soft or powdery. Sand away anything loose there as well. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks Hammerdown, I am going to give this a shot. I just need to find a patch kit that color matches now.

After you sand, and before you apply the patch epoxy, wipe down the area with a bit of denatured alcohol or MEK, let it evaporate, then patch. Helps the new stuff adhere to the old stuff.

Thanks AlphaGarage, I was thinking of just washing the sanded area with water and letting dry for a few days, but it makes way more sense to use the denatured alcohol for such a small area!
