Umm, I was today years old when I learned about filling a block. Has this sort of thing been around a long time? What about the head(s)? Do they get filled as well?

It's as old as dirt, er, concrete? Basically fill the block, only circulate coolant through the head. I only really need the cooling system on the return road, and should have enough oil in the pan to keep it from getting too hot. The cyl walls on these blocks are not as thick as earlier ones so I'm a bit nervous about it even at stock bore. The cooling passages were surprisingly small as well, they took out a LOT of volume in this block design vs others.

Been too long. Got the new motor mostly built. Have another car to wire in my "spare" time. Bought a 2 post lift to try and make things easier. Hopefully I can make it fit!

Working on some electrical upgrades. I "installed" this panel about 2yrs ago and ran the rough wiring up to the attic and the conduit down to the basement but then it just sat as I had other things to do. Finally had a buddy come over to help me help him wrestle the 0002 cable to the pain panel at the far end of the house. 100A capacity, plenty for welder, some more outlets, lift, etc. I used this big one because it matched my main panel and it was on sale for only a little more than a non main breaker box. It also makes it easy if I want to do another 100A run to an outbuilding someday. Can go right outside below this panel. Don't have to use my extension cord into the laundry room dryer outlet for the tig welder (and pop the breaker half the time). Also got a mini-split heat pump coming that'll go in once we thaw out a bit.

Finally have some lights in storage. It only took 2yrs since I put the floor in, been using a drop light.:sneaky:

Hacking away at race car stuff. Always problems. Been chasing a water leak after I converted to the filled block. I had made a fitting for the side of the head based off a stock part and it worked until it didn't.

IMG_2010.jpeg

I thought it was just a pinhole in my weld (you can see I tried some epoxy filler) but the stock fitting was a press fit and it came apart. Don't want to deal with that again so I tapped the head for -16an orb

I didn't think ahead (theme here) but I didn't have a tap handle this big, nor a drill bit for it. Put the tap into a 1" 12pt socket. I used the tap to chamfer the hole and then used a hole saw to cut to size. Ported the transition into the head a bit and it's holding cold and should be able to test at temperature soon.

Since the last dyno I am older and wiser! Also went from pump e85 to m5 methanol, stock to some big cams and ported head/valvejob.

Wrapped up another #kptuned #vwnationals proving even a rough day at the track is better than many other things.

Had a lot of fun making it to the semi finals in the inaugural 1000' shootout on Friday night. Went around @drizzyjamesx when his axle and/or trans mount left the chat. @zarpspeed put me on the trailer but he also took the win, so I don't feel bad at all. Made one 1/4 pass and the tree did something odd so no et, logs put it low 11s.

Out early Sat checking things out and looks like another upper shift selector broke. Go to swap and having issues. @smiths_euro came to take a 2nd look and found the lower broke too. Grabbed the one out of his car and 2qt of "slightly used" Torco Rtf and was ready for q1. Made a good 8th but more issues in 3rd. Go back and broken shift cable. Swap Steves shifter into my car and back in business. 2nd qualifier things were good until it popped out of 3rd. Oops i'd have to hold it in but ready for rd1.

Line up in rd1 against @am12sec12v running @greatvalleyvw 's jetta. I have plenty of cover so just going to take it easy. Sure. Let him go in 1st as the car is low and easy to stage wrong. Get it in and on the 2nd bulb, drop and we are off. Didn't nail the tree hard but I didnt need it, right? Car gets way out and on the 2-3 nothing there. No 3rd, no 4th, just hanging out coasting. Here comes Brandon right by me at the stripe with all his gears. Mov .05. Send me packing. Next rd bye right into the finals!

This is why we race. Never know what's gonna happen.

Many many many thanks to @smiths_euro for the help and @vw_nationals_masondixon for running a great event that we love sponsoring and racing in.

Have more diag to do as the car had a puddle of trans fluid under it in the trailer.

What latch are you using on the doors? Mine do nothing when pulled from inside or out and I need functioning handles for Pikes Peak.

Yea should be same as g60 and may be same as mk2 golf/jetta as well. I can ask around. I need another pair for my glass doors anyway.

Yea bearing shell is welded to the crank. Piston is in pieces. Can't find any of the wrist pin. Still not sure the cause other than high rpm stock engine.

Sometimes I remember I have a lift and not just a race car parking pad. Definitely better than the ground. IMG_2912.jpeg

The four post does really well on suspension work and added bonus of easy diy alignments on it.

Been a minute. Race car season is in full effect but still not done 😅

Finally had a few favors traded in and got the mini split installed. The boys did an awesome job and left me room for the "future shed" on my gravel pad. Even just the fan on low circulates the air nicely. Can't wait to crank it on a 90deg day and see how it does.
