agreed i cant see paying 2 bucks plus per square foot extra for this. Excavate 4" stone (if stable ground) and an 3/4-1" of sand, screed it smooth and install them carefully laying them flat and not sliding them into space, broom in polymeric sand and be done.

The only advantage to this system is it supposed only 1" (?) of sand under it. Eliminating 5 bags of sand per panel. I am not trying to move all the sand by wheel barrow from the driveway to rear. No vehicle access.

Interesting... We did our patio a few years ago, and lugged a TON of the kitty litter type gravel by wheelbarrow. I think we dug between 8-10 inches most places, just to be safe. Rented a power tamper and smashed it all down nice, and it has survived really well. I'm not sure how it would protect against frost heave, but it would be interesting to see...
