Pavers...did I make a mistake?

Contracted my Footers and Block work out to a well known Contractor in my area. No complaints...thus far he has done and accomplished what I've requested. Backfill is nearly complete, but since we required a little more dirt then what has already been delivered, I thought I came up with a good idea, by suggesting that he dig no more then 8 inches deep into the soil that lies between my carport, and the garage being built, and use that soil for additional backfill.

Now, I'm not so sure. For Pavers, have I gone too deep?
The Paver contractor whom I talked with a few weeks ago...mentioned he likes to use Blue/Gray CR6 Stone, and for his level base he uses #6 stone.
He mentioned nothing about a sand base, but I know with Pavers its a must.
The build up for the Paver build goes something like this:
Dig trench 8" deep.
Fill with 3 inches of Blue/Gray CR6 Stone, then
2 inches of #6 Stone, then
1 inch of Sand, then
the Paver at 2 inches thick.

Does this sound reasonable to you?:lol_hitti
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thank you,
John

If your going to drive on it. Then it should be around 12" compacked in layers. If its just for walking then you can get by with less. 8" would be perfect.

I just started a paver walk in my backyard last week. After "slicing" off 2" of sod and then going in as deep as my shovel, I was around 12". Just takes more backfill and a bit more work is all.

Iron-Iceberg,

Yes, I will be driving on it...not daily drivers, but nevertheless, two to 5 times a month.

Thanks to all for your replies.

John
