saw a post on CL. Went to the address and it was a pawn shop. It is a decent pawn shop in a ok part of town.

Picked up a Snap-on F720 ratchet and Snap-on speed handle for $30.
whoo-hoo!

Great score! The pawn shops around here are staffed by developmentally disabled folks who want $30 for a $5 set of Ryobi drill bits or something. :)

There's a small chain of pawn shops here that always has HF stuff and doubles the price on it. Is consistent enough that I am convinced it's policy.

Hmm. One close to me does the exact same thing with NIB Craftsman stuff. When you do the math on all of it, he has a precise formula - it's all the same markup. Something like 146% of retail, I forget exactly. It must be chapter 5 in the pawn shop textbook.

Before this thread is derailed to pawn shop practices, I suspect the OP is due a congrats. I've never owned a SnapOn ratchet, I would have snatched that up.

You sure made my pawn shop find of a brand new Snap on 6-piece screwdriver set for $40 look like a bad deal. Nice work man. Thanks for posting pics! They're in great shape! Was it priced that low or did you sweet talk the girl at the counter like I did?

Naw they were posted at $20 each. I threw the $30 offer for both, he check with the boss and they took it.

Nice! Sweet score, I would have rather picked that up than what I picked up. I've been in the market for a ratchet recently, finally settled on a Williams Taiwan ratchet but still have time to return it. Enjoy man, it's a real treat to find a tool truck score at a pawn shop :)

Glad I'm not the only one that has noticed this stuff at pawns. I never find good tools at any of the local ones, the one has a couple Starrett machinist tools and used, missing parts, rusty with full MSRP on sticker.

I do know of one real good pawn shop but it's about a 50 minute one way drive from my house.

I know of half a dozen around here. The newer ones have the HF stuff that the buy on sale and then mark it up.
This town was a industrial power house until about 15 yrs ago. A lot of the machinist tools come up as well as good hand tools. But you got to have a need or appreciation for them.

Best pawn shop score I ever had, was when I was vacationing in Colorado.
Despite the stink eye from the wife, I went into a small pawn shop to look around.
Found a mint condition MAC combination wrench set for $75.
I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough!
Even my wife's....."Who buys tools on vacation?".....comment, couldn't ruin the 'moment'.
