Sounds like a lot of fun.

Here in the NYC area , there seems to be an almost complete lack of pawn shops aside from a small hand full that have almost all jewelry. I keep seeing posts about these great pawn scores.. must be a regional thing, or perhaps the laws/regs here make it prohibitive. I do occasionally to to Atlanta for work... maybe I'll plan an extra day next time and do some scouting.

sounds like you had an awesome vacation. I love pawn shops, I never knew until a neighbor told me he bought all his snap on tool boxes there in the 80's. i went to the same place and scored a ton of v craftsman stuff, they looked at that stuff like cheaper stuff. I also found a complete set of wood handle screw drivers in great condition long lengths included.
I have found most pawn shops have a tool box full of misc tools and of course the snap on & other shiny brands, me I am into the really old craftsman BE & H some plomb stuff too. there always seems to be one BE or H at the very bottom of course. It's a nasty job but I got gaps to fill. I bring simple green and paper towels right in to the pawn shop and sit on the ground and go at it!

I live Near North GA. Worst pawn shops in the world are here. Nothing but **** and dam near new prices for the junk. I have only found one decent one. That was in Ellijay. I have hit them all from Jasper, GA up thru Murphy, NC.

"I've had a lady shop owner specifically bring me a fan (without me even asking)" Was it it a huge southern girl that had beans the night before and the look on your face said it all?

Nice vacation. I have a set of them Craftsman pins.

Thanks, JASTECH

Now THAT'S my idea of a vacation!
And I like your 8 points of pawn shopping. They ought to make it a stickie!

I stopped by a local pawnie today - been pretty dry the past month or so. But they know me over there, and, when I walked in, the one guy says "We got a bunch of tools in - I distributed them equally thoughout the various boxes." Since I'm a regular, they let me sift through boxes and pick out only the items I want. Got 5 pounds of tools for $5! Good day!

Great words,I will keep them in mind. Just this week I went into a small town pawn shop and they had a tiny little beat up carry tool box with about 20 very, very rusty chinese tools inside.
The owner wanted $98.00 Dollars plus sales tax.
I am not sure how they come up with these figures,if a person went to HF,they could walk out the door with a lot of new non-rusty tools and a large carry tool box.

I always get the impression (at least my 6th sense does),that these pawn shop men think that, every man or women walking in the door is a low level type of individual. I am sure that I am 100% wrong, but that is the impression that I get.

Well I am always glad to hear stories about our GJ members getting good deals, perhaps one day I will find one.

Woody, think about it. Who ARE the regulars in a pawn shop? My friend runs one, and he's so high priced I won't even buy from him. He tells me he makes the most money off interest, especially from the ones who beg him for just a few more days....Just a few more days, then I'll have enough to get it off pawn. I know a guy who pawned his Paslode gas nailer for $150, and ended up paying over 400 to get it back out, then sold it to me a month later for $100. :wtf: :headscrat
