Warm day here today. Had a bunch of small tasks to do, one of them was change the oil on my truck. No big deal drive it on the ramps, drain the oil, spin off the old filter. Here comes the suprise, I grab a filter off the shelf, I buy them in bulk. Open it up and see a few stink bugs in the box. As I'm pouring oil into the filter I see at least 40 of those little bastards floating to the top!!! They invaded my dang filter!!!

So anyway I grab another one of the shelf, this one is full of the little SOB's as well, however I was able to shake them all out before I filled this one. Any way just a heads up, they can hide ANYWHERE!!!! Keith

I switched out a 75/25 bottle at work and there were a few in the valve. Easy solution was to crack the bottle open to blow out any dirt and stink bugs as usual.

The darn things get into electric motors too. Everytime I use my shop vac, air compressor, and mig welder, I smell the nasty things. And don't remind me about all of the dead and dying ones in my tool box every time I reach into it for something!

What the heck is going on with the stink bugs the last two years? They're EVERYWHERE. I got hit with lady bugs this year too. Just this past weekend, a guy in the sailing slip next to my boat unrolled his sail and ladybugs went everywhere (I keep mine sealed up better inside the boat).

I started to make the stand for my arbor press yesterday, I fired up the compound saw and the damn things started falling out of the blade area. Took 4-5 cuts for them all to get out. Sure way to become a billionaire, invent a way to keep them from reproducing. Keith

From what I've read it is a different species of stinkbugs that isn't native to the US, it first showed up around 5 years ago in PA, and has spread exponentially since then. 3 years ago I had never seen one in my entire life, last year they were a nuisance at my house, this year I vacuumed probably 10gallons worth of them in the shop vac (fill bottom of vac with water with a few drops of dish detergent, they hit the water, sink, and drown, less smell and they don't live to reproduce/escape.

It's a wikipedia link, so take it with a grain of salt, but:

Glad we don't have to deal with them in AZ
They are quickly moving south and west from the northeast US, though depending on your area of AZ they may or may not make it in the climate.

I don't know if you're talking about "box elder" bugs, but I'm having a lot of trouble with them right now. Mixing Palmolive dishwashing soap with water in a spray bottle has been the most effective thing I've found, and kills them quick.

Nope...Brown Marmorated Stink Bug. Invasive species spreading through the US at a feverish rate...when they're here, they're EVERYWHERE. SC is barely on the map yet and I'm hoping that's an oversight and that there's not MORE coming!

I have some of those Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs, but they're haven't been a big problem YET. Nothing like the Box Elders.

We call the Box elders Stink Bugs up here. Soap and water kills them or we just vacuum them up. One thing you don't want to do is squash them because then more just show up.

I never even considered checking my bulk bought filters before installing them. Great post! Thanks!

My opinion on these little p's.o.s. are the Chinese sent them over to us in the U.S. to find the solution on how to get rid of them. They gave up! :headscrat :dunno:

There is a "brown stink bug" that is spread throughout the US looks very similar to the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug but the BMSB is the one that is expanding and growing like mad. The brown stink bug has a yellow belly, the BMSB has a brown underside. I trust once the BMSB's have reached your region, you will know it. There are three of them buzzing around my office right now...they sound like little r/c planes.

Guess I better keep my happy *** in Colorado! Maybe well be the last state to deal with them :lol_hitti

I don't know how well they'll live out there, but you've certainly got them. This time of year in Virginia they get everywhere looking for a place to spend the winter. I was in Colorado the other day, must have had a hundred in my trailer. My help didn't know what they were.

By law patio furniture and anything kept outside has to be checked for gypsy moth eggs. Without a signed form saying it's been done DOT can shut me down. This can't be done with stink bugs. They get everywhere. Go to change a headlight and you might find five of them behind it.

Tell me about it.. I KNOW they are somewhere inside my dash of my ranger... because EVERY time I turn on the blower or heater, I smell that stink bug death/scare smell.... I'm thinking on either taking the dash completely apart and vacuuming ever nook and cranny because lysol doesn't seem to be masking the smell, nor is fabreeze.. When I replaced the speakers in my doors I couldn't believe how many dead stink bugs were just chilling inside the door panel, at least a hundred between both doors...arg!!

While we're on the subject, always check your ear muffs before you put them on. These bugs (and spiders) love to set up housekeeping in the foam inside muffs.

It's pretty freaky to be tooling around on your mower and have some critter decide to crawl into your ear canal. Ask me how I know.

Yeah! I know a guy that leaves his helmet on his Harley, parked under a carport. He told me about the time he put on the helmet when it was loaded with stinkbugs! :shocking:

My wife had the WORST stinkbug episode. She likes to sit in the dark, late at night, playing games on the computer and internet, etc. One night I heard a big scream and woke up to find her crying and gagging. She was eating a bag of popcorn, and one of the little bastards had crawled into it. In the dark, she didn't see it, put it in her mouth, and bit down on it!!!
Apparently they taste worse than they smell.......

I've seen a few of the stink bugs, but I don't know which ones they are. I was changing the light fixture in the bathroom last year and the box was filled up just over half way with box elder bugs (on an interior wall no less). And the lady bugs are some thick it looks like the walls are painted brown.

Lady bugs rock. You can sell them on eBay, they're so awesome.

The only reason I would NOT like to find a colony of them in my house is because it means there's something else living in there that the ladybugs are feeding on.

One of them sumbitches crawled in my coat pocket. I thought it was a piece of paper or straw wrapper and I was rolling it around in my fingers , squishing it, etc. I pulled it out to throw it in the trash by the door and it was a Damn stink bug!!!

My hand smelled like those things for hours even after washing 5 x

Gave a new meaning to stinky pinky....

Don't confuse lady bugs with those damn Japanese Beetles. They turned those bastards loose here about 10 years ago to eat some type of tree fungus and they attempted a hostile takeover. They get in your house by the hundreds. They've spend the last 9 years trying to get rid of them.

My sister in Indiana had those damn Japanese ladybugs in their house. They came into the house for the warmth during the winter. They stank, they bit, and they were everywhere. She vacuumed them up, a quart at a time every few days, but it didn't get rid of them.

The year they released those little bastards was awful. They exposed every drafty window, door, and duct pipe in WV. I bet Terminex, WeatherStrip, and Great Stuff stock went through the roof. They had several 5 minute specials on the news about sealing your **** up to keep them out.

We have these stink bugs in Southern Idaho:

Pinacate Beetle:

They are a little larger and don't get into everything. They do have a very unique defensive posture where they aim their *** in the air and spray.
