I have wanted to start a thread like this for awhile. Even though I am fairly new as a member I have used this site for years and there was a very successful one on another forum I am a member of.

I put this under "General Tool Discussions" because some might avoid the classifieds as they might not have cash to spare.

Overview:
The point here is simple. Someone puts up something and if you need it, it's yours! No questions asked. As some items can be heavy, if the person posting the item would like compensation for "actual shipping cost" then that should be plainly stated but I have never charged anyone shipping for something I'm giving away before!

Guidelines:
1) First come, First served! Quoting the item post and adding "next" puts you in line if a taker backs out.

2) Though not required, if you take someone up on their offer, it would be preferred that you also put something up for grabs for the next person as it keeps the good will flowing.

3) It would be preferable to hold those participating to the 100 post requirement as in the garage sale area to guard against those who would create an account just to grab a free item they don't need. If a person without 100 posts wants something then the decision to complete the would be with the one offering up the item but that should be plainly stated for transparency sake.

4) As with everything here....Pics are ALWAYS good!

Up for grabs.

Starrett punches: Gone to Gore

Also up for grabs: Mag-Lite I think it's a 3 cell. Worked when I last put it away about 2 years ago but didn't want to buy batteries to test it lol.
Was stored without batteries.

Shipped FREE anywhere in the lower 48.
Prefer the light went to a different home.

Probably! Looks like the shipping thing killed it. I have never been one to ask for shipping so I can give someone a gift. I think that if a person needs shipping reimbursed then they shouldn't post the item (large heavy stuff excluded).

SH used to be awesome! Of the2 hobbies, tools are definitely cheaper!

Love it. I have a whole section devoted to Karma on my site think I'll start this one too! Paying it forward is always a good idea. I've tried to help out a few GJ members with some stuff before and will continue to do so if I can. Good on you for starting this!

Dude...this is awesome...what can I say? I would definitely love to have some punches, as I have none. I have to admit it's hard to not feel a bit guilty getting stuff for free. I would at least like to pay for the shipping.

I've also got some "extras" of things...but need to check my stash.

I wish we could have some kind of "wish list" so that it could help us narrow down what to part with...or at least to make sure someone gets something they might need.

I think it is a good idea except for the donor having to foot the bill for shipping. I've given away lots of different things and the only requirements I made on the recipient was that they had to reimburse me for the shipping costs, usually a USPS flat rate box, and they could not sell anything I gave them but had to give it away if they decided they no longer wanted the item.

Here is one item, a Sears air-driven ratchet, 3/8 inch. It is about 30 years old but very low usage. I haven't used it but once or twice in the last 25 years. I also have an ancient DeVillbis (spelling?) spray gun with a Binks cup and several different pressure feed tips. Painted several cars with it back some 30+ years ago. Probably several other items but I'd have to go look.

I have 4 benchdog cookies, used them once for routing they work fine, they just don't fit into my woodworking workflow very well. Let me know and I'll drop them in the mail:

I could use the air ratchet. Drop me a PM and we can talk.

When I get to work Monday I'm going to figure out some stuff I can kick in here.

I have a cordless drill that I can throw on here. Its a Kawasaki 18V, nothing special but it works well. It was my goto for the past 3-4 years and never let me down. It would be good for any kid/teen that might want their own drill. Since I don't have any kids, if anyone wants it then I can send it to you. I will post some pictures of it later tonight.

OK, I'm jumping in here. With all of the hullabaloo about the MATCO / Armstrong ratchet discontinuation and the associated pain that it has caused...I had a AR6FT 1/4" ratchet (34 tooth?), with very light use. Because I knew that I likely wouldn't be able to get parts for it, it was selected to be modified for a one-time cause. It didn't go well - please don't ask.
Anyway, before tossing it out, I stripped the ratchet mechanism out of the head and obviously have no use for it. I'm not sure what other ratchets it will fit, but I believe that the replacement kit number is ARTHD.
It's up for grabs. First PM received with shipping info gets it.

Clarification: This is a near-new condition ratcheting mechanism for a MATCO AR6FT or another Armstrong-manufactured ratchet that uses ARTHD rebuild kit. I could see how my original wording of this offer might give the wrong impression of what is available. The ratchet body ended up being "toast" but the mechanism is just fine.

TheMadMech:
You should receive the ratchet on Friday. I tossed in a cheapo die grinder as well since the shipping was flat rate. The grinder isn't much and I have no idea where the wrenches may be but you might find some use for it.

I have a set of Y valves for an acetylene torch, allows two sets of hoses to each regulator so you can have both a cutting torch and welding torch set up at the same time. These are actual valves, not just Y-adapters. New price is around $40 last time I checked. Free plus the cost of the flat-rate box, about $10.

was it ever decided , or is it up to the poster, are we asking the person the wants the item to cover shipping?

My interpretation is that the OP (Swingpress) in post #4 believes the shipping should be part of the donation. Furd50 in post #14 feels it is up to the donor to ask for reimbursement of shipping in the offer posting.

I would assume that if no reimbursement is asked for, none is expected. That's how my donation rolls...

Need to be realistic, if it's small, shipping is a minor cost. If it's a large heavy item the cost could become prohibitive and discourage people from participating. Everyone needs to use their own judgment on what they can afford, without judgment from the group.

To be clear. It was never my intention to set a requirement. I only meant to offer a suggestion.
I feel that it should be up to the person but that it should be stated in the post what is expected. I would never want to force what I would personally do on anyone here. I am simply happy that this thread is alive! People have different ways of doing things and what works for one might not work for all!

Thank you to all who have posted items! I hope your generosity is returned to you 10x over! Let's keep it alive!

Was a member on a sportbike forum and we had the same deal set up.

Worked out really good. But the only catch with ours was if you wanted to claim something you first had to offer something and of course pay shipping

Gonna check my garage when I get home and see what I can come up with.

I just got a Klein linesman pliers and 11 in 1 driver set. I already had an 11 in 1 (also klein), so now there's a redundancy. PM me if you're interested.

I'm hoping to need tools like this one day, but it's not in the foreseeable future. Someone can probably put it to use now. My only condition is that the recipient explain to me the use of the little ratcheting knob at the end. It does have some surface rust.

I believe that ratcheting knob is so that you put the same compression on every item you measure. When you're measuring to the nearest 0.0001" you can easily get a different measurement by how tightly you twist the closing mechanism.

Thank you! I had learned that a couple weeks ago in a video I was watching, and I couldn't remember for the life of me.

Oh man that digital (digital being the easy readout) depth gauge would be something I could definitely use for my senior design project but I would feel bad asking for it considering I have non-digital fowler depth gauge already.....
Edit: Digital Depth Micrometer not gauge. For precision instruments you need precision naming lol.

Woot Woot....I got my punches...I got my punches!!! Thanks again Swingpress! I feel like a big kid now with some real punches...lol.

On a side note, someone should snag that drill. I also have a Kawi drill...the one that's more black than green...and it won't die. At one point it was my only power tool...and it has sat on my garage shelf for the past 9ish years. I recently wanted to start cleaning out old tools and wanted to see if it still worked. I charged the batteries (nicad) and used it almost exclusively to do 4 sections of fencing...drilling, pilot holes, screwing...and it performed flawlessly. Sure it doesn't feel like my Fuel...but it would be a great starter drill.
