Paypal "gift" for purchases

I have seen on GJ that sellers are directing their buyers to pay for their purchases using the Paypal "gift" feature, presumably to avoid seller's fees. Simply stated, this constitutes fraud and/or theft. Paypal is a business, designed to make money. Cheating them out of their rightful fees also makes Garage Journal a de facto party to the fraud or theft. I am very surprised tht Paypal hasn't at the very least cautioned GJ for allowing this practice.

The controlling parties of Garage Journal should immediately ban purchase transactions in which purchasers are allowed to be paid with the Paypal "gift" feature. The continued practice cheapens Garage Journal and by extension its membership.

Certainly, the legalities of my stance could be argued, but even the appearance of impropriety should dictate the elimination of this practice.

Remember that if you send money as a gift you have no recourse if the seller doesnt send the item. The way Paypal sees it is that you gave this person a gift.

Not this again. This topic has been beaten into the ground on this forum.

If you send money as a gift the sender pay's a fee.

Correct.
PayPay still gets their money from the Buyer instead of the seller like usually on auction sites.

So if you buy something for $20.00 as a "gift" you will pay $20.00 plus the PayPal fees.

I would not advise on paying for goods as a gift. You lose your paypal protection in the event of a loss. I have had people pay using the gift option but I did not ask and as the seller I would insure the shipment in those cases.

I prefer regular payments so I can print the shipping label directly from paypal and both parties are safe.
