Cleaning up vintage tools i use PB to help free up the mechanism, like my Yankee screwdriver. I used evaporust and brake cleaner, and liberal shots of PB. How fastidious do i need to be about cleaning off the PB at the end of the job?

Don't ask.
PB Blaster is a penetrating lubricant. From my experience I'm convinced that it penetrates and lubricates better than WD-40. I wouldn't worry about cleaning it off after the job, unless you have a certain reason (feel, odor, staining, contamination).

I agree with Leafless, i think it’s oil in a volitile carrier. I wipe off the excess with one of the shop rags which leaves a bit of a film, and it doesn’t bother me that way. Just want to make sure it won’t harm the tool.

Like most products of this type, there is an SDS available (example is the original penetrant product).

With close to 30 products available from Blaster though, there are some formulations that might protect better... like their Surface Shield.

A penetrant...not a good lasting lubricant.
Maybe not, but 2 thoughts: the naptha is going to evaporate and leave the oil behind, and these are tools to hang on the wall. And they are very low cycle tools anyway, not rotating parts with bearings.
