How do the PB Swiss bits hold up for use with an impact driver? Do they last a long time, or would one be better off with a set of the Wera impact bits for impact use, and leave the PB ones for the standard driver?

In my experience impact bits really do need to be made for the purpose!

Knowing what I do about PB bits, I suspect that they are designed to take the maximum torque of the biggest fastener that each size fits, plus a margin. Within that spec, they will not deform, and will last as long as feasible!

Using my PB bits in this manner, with a variety of hand drivers, they seem to be almost everlasting, and I have yet to replace one! Seeing tradesman buying 'another' box of 50 crappy El-cheapo (insert any made in China brand here) bits just cracks me up!

Some of the bits are designed to be used with power tools, and I do. Again, no problems using these with my Desoutter air screwdriver.

If I was using an Impact Driver I'd get a separate set of bits designed for the purpose!

I look after some extremely expensive analysis equipment amongst other things, it requires very high tolerance tools for all its internals. The specifications and quality of pb swiss tools is in my opinion unmatched. Ive not used their impact bits but i assured you they will work brilliantly..

I emailed PB Swiss about this a while ago as they don't make impact specific bits. I asked specifically about 'E6 bits.' PB said 'Our E6 bits are impact driver and drills compatible.'

Their selling point is that you don't need different bits for different applications.

'The PrecisionBits are suitable for all types of screwdriving applications. The use of bits with different degrees of hardness and coatings is no longer necessary - stock keeping is simplified. '

Having said this, I don't use a 1/4" impact very often so cannot back these claims up myself.

They are not suitable for impact use. The bits are a little too brittle. My 12v impact driver easily broken the business end of a Phillips bit. I was a little surprised since that old Bosch doesn’t have anywhere near the torque my 18v drivers do. Live and learn...use the right bit for impact use.

FWI I’ve been using the PBswiss torx bits in my impact driver with no issues. I’d say those and the Festool bits are the best available.
