In the throws of redoing my garage and will be using a coupl of panels of perforated hardboard/peg board. As for the hangers/hooks etc, I've been browsing online (the homestores have a measely selection) and came upon these units

Has anyone used them, or have a good reference for purchasing pegboard hardware?
Thanks,
Tim

I would not go for plastic... That's just my unprofessional opinion.

They work great on light weight items, but I did have one shap off with a hand saw hanging on the peg. The saw probably weighs less than 2 pounds. The problem is not the cost of the broken hook, but what breaks when the stuff falls onto the work bench.

I have a mix of steel and plastic. I use the steel one's for heavy objects (hammers, C-clamps stacked 6-8 deep) or for tools with small holes in the handle that won't fit on the thicker plastic hangers (my utility knives are a good example).

But for everything else, I use plastic whenever I can. Why? Because the metal one's are forever falling out of the pegboard when I remove the tool from the board. You can't (generally) just reach up with one hand and grab the tool you want. You have to stretch across your bench with both hands, grabbing the tool with one and the hook with the other, to stop the hook from falling out. A minor inconvenience, but when your benches are as buried in stuff as mine are, it's can be a PITA to find those hook once they fall down!

The plastic one's have a split bulb end, which makes them stay SOLIDLY in place on the board, allowing for one handed tool removal. I've NEVER had one of these come out. And so far, I've never broken one.

If your not sure, just buy a small quantity and try them. You'll see what I mean.

Peg board hardware

Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for these for a couple years now. I bought a small package of them (black) from the local lumber yard, and I love them. I've never had one break, and the ones that you can put about six screwdrivers in a row, keep the screwdrivers totally vertical. The similar wire holder I had before had the screwdrivers all hanging in them at different angles. Its kinda **** of me, but it looks way nicer, when they look neat. Thanks again. John V.O.

I am the only one that uses the black clips to keep the metal ones in place?

Nope.

I forget where I got mine - I think out of a catalog about 15 years ago now...
Great for what they do. A PITA to get out (I guess that's on purpose... duh.)

Sorry to bring up and old thread, but I bought a bunch of peg hooks in various styles from Big Lots really cheap. Just a thought.

I use those too. To remove them, slip a putty knife under the clip and slip it to one oof the sides to spring it. They'll come right out.

Hi banzaitoyota,

Where did you find the red hooks in the top picture ? I put up 16 feet of peg board and have yet to hang anything due to lack of hooks. All I can find at HD, Lowes and Harbor Freight are the 1/8" metal. Without the clips they are a pain. I've searched the web a bit but have not run across hooks like the ones in your first picture.

Thanks in advance...

Jim

Thanks Guys. I am not a big fan of pegboards but I have a small wall space that I may want to place a a pegboard on to utilize the space.
