Im going bonkers looing at idea for peg boards. Let see some of you guys peg bpards in action for some inspiration for mine haha. Im going to build mine 6'x4' or som maybe a bit smaller. Ive been looking for hours and cant decide haha

Nice garage: subtle chip epoxy floor, Steevo bench, tv, electric strip on workbench edge, (is that shop air under the vise?), padding for footsies, and well lit. Pulling the handles off floorjacks is a bit extreme. Now I am dieing for a reverse angle!

What about ghost outlines for missing tools? How do you keep the darn hooks from falling off? What about diy horizontal pegboard like the Matco grid?

I would go with the smaller size peg board holes. Hard to buy brackets that don't move around in the larger ones. I have the Milwaukee metal board and ended up going with magnetic strips.

Don't buy the cheapie hooks. Buy the larger (but still fits your pegboard) hooks with the 'keeper' hooks, where it goes into two holes instead of one (for a single hook).

I did white peg board in my last garage....full size sheet on one small wall near the big garage door and had bigger tools on it and did a smaller white one over the work bench w regular use tools....screw drivers, pliers, wrenches etc...that everybody could grab and use easily. As suggested.....get nicer peg inserts and use clip locks where you can to keep them in place. Good luck.

I did 2 6'X3' sections of the white pegboard. Reflects a lot of light and has a clean look.
I second 58's suggestion on the better hooks also.

I've never been a big fan of peg board. I prefer to just mount 1/2" - 3/4" plywood and put screws or nails in it.

Same company, just scratch and dent stuff but I've had to really search for blemishes.

My Dad builds his pegboard into cabinets, with pegboard inside the doors as well. You get twice as much surface area that way while only sacrificing a small amount of depth.

Sorry he lives 300 miles away, I can't get pictures. Something like this though.

Personally I can't stand the stuff. It's never convenient pulling something off the hook. I'm always disturbing something else when removing or returning something to the wall, and if it's not at the back of a workbench I'm always catching myself or something I'm carrying on it.

Where do you get 'good' hooks, etc.? I've noticed that the big box stores have a very slim assortment in recent years.

I have found good hooks at reasonable prices on amazon.

Read the descriptions. If they fit 1/8" peg holes they are NOT the good ones....

In the garage at our old house, I lined one wall with white pegboard for the wife's gardening tools. Brightened the garage quite a bit.

This was maybe 10 years ago (maybe more).

Anyhow, it turns out the pegboard was 4' plus a little extra (1/8 or maybe 1/16th). By the time I got to the end of the wall, i couldn't keep the edge on the stud. I thought it was the studs, but it turns out the pegboard was slightly oversize.

I don't know if it's still that way. It would have been (relatively) easy to trim it on the tablesaw if I had realized prior to putting it up.

Don't overthink it. Just put up whatever works, and wherever it works for you. You can always change it later. I ended up moving my pegboard after a few months.

I covered one end of my workshop with it. Built the bench first, then put pegboard above it, from the top of the bench to the bottom of the rafters. Trimmed it with 1x's to cover the edges.

I still put most items in the tool box, but a few get hung on the PB.

I have some along the top of one wall for stuff I seldom need but I like things where I can see them. Also have some above one work bence and am going to put some metal peg board up at he bench where I weld.

I've had it in some places and it always seems like a good idea when putting it up, but over time it just seems to get in the way for me. It's a quick covering for the wall though and fairly inexpensive. Easy to install and remove with screws.

I have gone from having a couple of walls of it to just a 2' wide section for holding misc small items fairly high up and out of the way. I don't have a lot of available wall space anymore to dedicate to the low storage density that pegboard offers.

I've heard that you can dab a bit of hot melt glue on the tines of pegboard hooks and insert them to keep them from popping free easily when using them, but can still be removed if you give it a good tug.

It seems like a neat idea for the back of a workbench, but I have found work benches fill up with horizontal clutter and are a bad idea for me. I use work carts instead that I clean off the top when not in use. That has helped me keep the clutter down.

I built my cabinet doors out of pegboard too.

Pros: Can put up pegs inside and outside.
Can hear the radio with the door closed.

Cons: Inside pegs tend to bump into stuff inside.
Closing the door too fast knocks some stuff off of pegs.
Putting too much stuff on the doors makes them heavy to swing.

Overall I like it but I'm not sure I'll do it again. It was handy for hanging tubes of RTV and packs of lightweight stuff like shrink wrap, but everything sways all over opening and closing and I do have to put things back up every time or three.
