Peg Board install?

Does anyone have any ideas on a good way to install pegboard?

I thinking of framing 4 x 8 sheets somehow and mounting them.

Use 1 x 2's screwed to the wall. Then screw the pegboard to those.

Kind hard to see for all the junk I have on them, but I used 1x3" pine and framed the pegboard.

Typical panel building methods, dado the inside frames, and then put them together like picture frames. Painted them, and them covered the mounting holes with oak buttons stained to match my workbench top.

1 large two panel unit above the bench, and two smaller units off to either side.

I mounted my peg boards horizontal above the bench. I used full length 1x2's on the top, bottom and ends, and 2 inch 1x2's, two per stud on the internal area. I didn't use full length on the internal area to prevent covering up more holes than neccessary.

One extra touch that I did was paint the wall and 1x2's behind the peg board a flat black. Since my walls are a light grey, it prevents "seeing" behind the peg board...Not really necessary but a nice detail.

On a 9' wall, i put a 4'x8' sheet of 5/8" thick drywall on the bottom, then placed 1/2" thick styrofoam/insolation with 1/4-3/8" thick pegboard to be about the same thickness as the drywall. This made things line up, plus the styrofoam keeps the pegboard "pegs" in place, they don't fall out when you remove items from the pegs.

Frame up with 1x2's screwed to the studs with 3" drywall screws.

Mount the PB to the frames with 1" drywall screws on 24" centers.

Use 1/4" PB.

I used 2x2's since I have surface mounted conduit running behind mine.

I have 3 4+8 sheets above my benchs I just cut 2+2 blocks for each stud top and bottom so not have anything blocking the use of the full sheet been up for about 5 years totaly covered with tools and stuff no problem

I have a home project magazine somewhere here that has a neat idea...

Build a frame that hangs on the wall but is removable. That way, it's easy to clean out the dust and junk that invariably collects in behind the peg board. The peg board is easy to change out when it gets old and tired - usually long before a frame would need replacing..

I'll see if I can find it and maybe get a web reference.
