Peg board instead of rolling tool cabinet?

Hi -

I am "potentially" moving to a house with a larger garage. My current setup is 22x11, the new setup will be 22x20. I have a "working" garage meaning there's always a project happening. I also have a classic Olds that will basically be restored by the time I move into the new home. I have been thinking of putting a lift in the garage for working purposes but also potentially to store a car over the winter.

I am quickly finding out that no garage is ever big enough. The Olds is 17 ft long, it will barely fit with room to walk around it when in the garage. It may be in either bay at any given time (on the lift or not). Having a rolling tool box, work table(s), welding equipment etc. is starting to become difficult to plan for. The more I can put on the walls or at least lift up higher than the hood, the better I am. I started to think about ditching my rolling tool cabinet in favor of a peg board setup. For the most part my toolbox hasn't moved since I filled it up so really I have no need for it to be mobile.

Does anyone have a peg board setup in their garage for mechanic type tools? I was thinking of something like the below. Currently looking for thoughts on if it's usable or not, and any inspirational pictures.

I'm with you on the wall storage. There are arguments in favor and against using pegboard, the most common one against is that your tools are unprotected from dust and dirt and visible to potential thieves. The flip side is that everything is there in plain view and you don't need to open drawers to find what you need. I have been agonizing over whether or not to buy a tool chest, since I do very little mechanical work and most of my work is home improvement or woodworking. I am at the point where I'm probably going to skip the toolbox and use either pegboard or a french cleat system for organizing my tools. If you have limited space, for a box but plenty of wall space, this is probably a reasonable solution.

I decided to go this route with my limited space too. I'm kinda going half mechanic half workbench/woodworking/garden on my garage. I definitely recommend the Wall Control panels and hooks too, I have one of the kits plus another ~ $40 in more hooks/holders. I plan to add another kit on the other side once I build my workbench over there for all of the "house" hand tools. This pretty much has 80% of the stuff I use regularly for the stuff I work on so it is pretty handy. I don't have an issue with dust or dirt, I do keep a box fan blowing on it when its rainy out to keep condensation off of my tools until I can sort that out with my building. Still rearranging and making it just right, wanting to unify my socket rails and get a better wrench solution, I might need a another panel to do that and hang them individually

I like pegboard.
There, I said it.
No floor space required.
Easy to grab what you need/see what's missing/put stuff away
Not worried about thieves seeing what I have hanging up.
(Mostly older Craftsman, from what I've read here it's not even worth hauling off...)
Sockets and ratchets in drawers, wrenches/pliers/screwdrivers/hammers on the walls.

I've had both.

In a small shop the pegboard works just fine. In my 30x40, I was doing a lot of walking. It was probably healthy, but I went to a rolling box anyway. I like the rolling box a lot. I would not like it in a small shop where my space to roll it was limited.

That Wall Control system looks pretty swell.
Could solve my need for bigger tool chest.... or not.
