When you've got a newly insulated and VPed wall and you want to hang some pegboard, what do you do (to keep the hooks from damaging the VB)? Do you put up draywall/OSB first, then attach the PB with spacers? Strap the wall then screw the pegboard to that?

I build peg board as units. That way I can size them as needed & move them when or if I like. I just built 2 of these for my sister in law. Apx 3.5'x4'. Going to go & hang them for her tomorrow.
I just rip down pine 2x4 studs into 3/4 x 1&1/2 strips for the surrounding frame. And 3/4 x 3/4 strips for all the hidden pieces on the back.
I make sure the vertical strips on the back are 16" on center so I can hit studding when I mount them. I also make sure the vertical strips line up between columns of holes so all the holes are usable. I cant stand pegboard with unusable holes bacause that is invariably where you need to put a peg.
Anyway good luck!

Hey, nice job on those panels! Think I'll borrow that idea for mine.

So, to the original question.. would you finish the wall first before hanging them or would you attach these right over the vapour barrier?

I did the same, just no middle strips. No need for them unless you are hanging hookers off the peg board :bounce::bounce:

I think your better off to finish the wall (drywall) first. That way if you ever have the need to change things up you just unscrew the panel & move it. No unfinished wall left showing. Also any hooks you use in the pegboard have no chance at all of damaging the vapor barrier.

Don't know what you fellas use for pegboard hooks but there are some from Lee Valley that don't fall off as easily, they sort of lock into the pegboard.

I never realy worried about it.
The VB is pretty flexable and the hooks don't go that far back.

The one time it was an issue I just put 1x2 spacers nailed on the studs and then used drywall screws with washers behind the heads to put up the peg board.
(I use 1/4 inch thick peg board with the 1/4 inch holes/)

I would just cover the whole thing with slatwall. search craigslist in your area. A lot of businesses sell it when they go out of business. It's way better than peg board. You can use it for shelves or pegs. You can change it up later if your needs change.

Here's some pics from various angles and stages for the slatwall in my shed.
