I currently have two different brands of hooks. The first was one of those 50 piece sets from Menards or something and they constantly fall out when you pick up the tool. I also bought a few extra hooks that are beefier and never fall out. I can't remember the brand or where I purchased the beefier ones to buy more. What do you use? Suggestions?

Walmart sells a combo pack for $5.....by far the best quality & heavy duty ones available locally. The ones that Lowes & Home Depot sell are pure junk.
+1 on the Walmart value pack. 20 1/4" pieces for $5 is hard to beat.

Yep gotta go 1/4" that is the key also the ones with the extra bit that locks them in place are worth their weight in gold...
I agree with the 2nd tab. Those are the ones I look for when I can get them.

Probably not as secure as the screw-down ones, but at least I can pick up a pair of pliers without the hook coming along for the ride.

If you are talking about them missing the locater pin below the hanging hook, the walmart ones have them, at least they do in that picture.

Sorry I was going on past history. Looks like the Stanleys they sell now are OK.
Oh yeah I hate those plastic retainers. The only time they do their job is when you try to move the hook.

Yeah you right! Pull a tool off a hook and they pop out, try relocating them and you better have a screwdriver or prybar to pop them out...

I've picked up some of the plastic pegs from http://wallpegstore.com/, who are an alliance discount vendor of the GJ. I've been very happy with them, they're very strong and lock in place very nicely..
I looked when I was in Harbor Freight a couple weeks ago and the only ones they had were just like the ones I have that fall out.

I bought the 1/4 inch at HF. They usually have both 1/8 and 1/4. Maybe you got to the store after someone bought all the 1/4 inch.
That was a couple years ago, I searched used pegboard hooks and sorted lowest plus shipping first, then went down the list for the best deal. Here is one listing for 140 pieces of 1/4" for about $23, that's about $0.16 each for 9" long hooks. Pretty good deal imo.

I believe everyone that I had that used the plastic clip, has been tossed in the scrap bucket. It seems that if you want decent pegboard hooks, you have to spend a little more or find the older used ones cheap.
Do you have any stores going out of business around you ? Many times they will sell boxes of used commerical grade hooks for cheap.

Before I re-arranged things and decommissioned the peg board I was going to silicone the hooks in place. Silicone will strip out cleanly if you need to get it out and I figured it would hold them in place pretty good too.
