Pegboard, tape and float?

Hello

First time poster checking in!

I moved back into the house I grew up in and am wanting to fix up the garage this fall, after I get the garage doors replaced. I will be repainting, and doing some sheetrock repair and hanging some new window treatment. Two of the walls are pegboard and I was wondering if there is anything that can be done to clean up the lines between the pegboard sheets? Can this be taped and floated? I remember in the past there was tape covering the lines but it has deteriorated over the years. The house was built in 62.

Thank you.
Laurence

I'd use some screen molding (1/4" x 3/4") to trim the joints, then paint.

Is this like a crown molding? I am going to do something like that too, but I was wondering what could be done about the edges where the pegboard panels meet eachother.

Thanks again.

I just ripped some old 8 ft long 2x4's I had to 1/4" thick. Got enough to do my entire garage - the old owner had pegboard almost everywhere so I just completed it and painted it all. Looks new - well, to me anyway!

You can barely make out the trim under the hub caps hanging on the wall

You can buy lattice strips at the home center to use as battens. Brad nailer is the preferred way to install.

I strongly dislike pegboard because of the hobbies I enjoy, they all generate high dust levels. All of my tools were covered in dust, lots of it.

My suggestion is to evaluate what you plan on doing in the garage before you go to all the work to finish the pegboard. It may be worth the little bit of extra work to hang sheetrock. Sheetrock also has the benefit of being a fire barrier.

I agree that tools on pegboard CAN be dust catchers, but they don't have to be. I use a yard blower to periodically blow off my tools.

Also, just because you have pegboard doesn't mean you HAVE TO hang a zillion tools on it. It seems like some guys are in a contest to put EVERY tool they own on their walls! Lol. I have enough tool box space to put every tool out of sight. I just hang a few things I use often or that I like seeing.

But if the original poster already has pegboard, why go to the expense, work, hassle of tearing it all out for something else?

Apart from covering the joints, framing the entire pegboard with some trim would look nice. It's something to consider.

Sorry for the late reply. This is molding that can be picked up at Home Depot (that's where I stole the picture :)). It's relatively low profile and with the rounded edges should look pretty good. My suggestion was to use it to cover the joints between panels. For outside edges, if the panels are flush to the drywall you could use the same thing. If not then some quarter-round around the perimeter should work.
