Excellent thread. I was leaning towards slatwall, but now I think I'm going to use pegboard in my garage.

At the big box stores the 1/4 inch panels are called "Garage Panels" not peg board.
Peg board will be 1/8 thick and brown.
Garage panels will be !/4 and white

This is the first Ive known of slatwall- its like pegboard with manners..

Any pros and cons of one versus the other. I have been a big fan of pegboard, but if slatwall is just as functional, there could be room for both.

I love slatwall. More hooks/shelf brackets, etc. I am able to hang my cabinets/shelves from it and move them around within a few seconds. Everything on my wall is on a slatwall hook.

Do pegboard hooks fit into slatwall?

No they do not.

I beg to differ. Depends on the type though. Single hooks will not, but if it's a dual mount or more it will work. I have quite a few.

For instance this will work:

And this wont:

It's not strictly a one versus one comparison. There is thin and thicker pegboard. There is unfinished and prefinished pegboard. There is slat board with a metal reinforcement strip that goes in the groove preventing tear-out if you put something too heavy for the strength of the parent material. And there is slat wall that does not have this metal reinforcement.

I looked again at Joey Dubs photos, and beside the Reserved wording on the truck parking sign, it looks exactly like pegboard hooks!

I lucked out and found 18 sheets on Craigslist's free section, which you see in my garage. Has the metal strips too. That's like $150ish a sheet. And color matches my exterior of my house.

Excellent thread. I was leaning towards slatwall, but now I think I'm going to use pegboard in my garage.

Do it.. About $50 a sheet, but way more versatile. We use it at my work and that's where I got the want for it.

I recently built a small work bench have 2 sections of pegboard on the back of it. They are on a some hinges so they can swing up and use the space behind for additional storage.

Ok - I see this is an old thread, but I think it's the appropriate one to post into. The OP asked for ideas and uses.

I haven't usually been a big fan of pegboard, - but- I saw the wall control thread and it got me intreagued with it.
I ordered the scratch and dent blue, and received it a couple days ago.
Wall space is a premium so I looked for ideas. Coincidentally I was at the same time going through some old boxes from a job in another state. I had an old plan rack for blueprints.

Blueprint racks are for hanging the prints that are clamped into metal braces. I got the idea to hang the metal panels from these racks.

I think I'll like this arrangement as I end up getting 64" of panels in about 34" of space.

I put a couple items on it just for illustration and ideas. I intend to use it for things that don't go well in drawers, like handsaws and framing squares etc.
