Pegboard?

I'm getting ready to build a new garage, 40x28. I see a lot of real pretty photos on this site of sheet rocked interior walls. I'm thinking of peg boarding the whole freaking thing with 3/8" pegboard. Thoughts, suggestions, experiences?

Thanks
Bud

I love mine...being a broke college grad I wasn't about to pick up a SO 3-bay box, but pegboard was cheap :D

I used a combination of the old-school metal hooks and Wallpeg. I really like Wallpeg's screwdriver & pliers holders - they got those right.

If this is an attached garage, you must use 5/8" Type-X (fire-rated) drywall on the wall shared with the house. (You could then put furring strips and pegboard on top of that, though.)

Detached garage, no problem.

Uh, huh....$70 each for a tiny 2 ft. x 3 ft. panel. Make sure you pave the garage with gold tile too:bounce:

What tylernt says is correct. I've got a lot of pegboard in my garage. SOme of it the older thin stuff that was there when I moved in so I just painted it white and it looks & works good. I added the same 3/8" pre-finished stuff you're talking about to an unfinished wall and other than having larger holes which need different pegs it looks clean and I like it.

When I was planning my shop I frequented Craigslist looking for stuff. I even downloaded an app for my phone to auto search certain items. I eventually stumbled onto a guy selling heavy 4 x 4 store retail display pegboard for 3 cents a sheet. I filled my truck up with the stuff. 3 years later, my shop is almost done and as it turns out I am only one 4x4 sheet shy of pegboarding everything I originally wanted to.

I guess I'll jump in on this one, photos and videos of my mostly pegboard garage interior:

I originally considered all pegboard but after some thought I concluded it might look too monolithic so I did a combination as you'll see in the above linked thread.

Pegboard is great, but it isn't perfect. If I was doing all the walls in my garage, I'd line the with French cleats, and then use them to mount whatever you want, which could very well be pegboard, but could be any sort of custom hanger or even a cabinet. I built my clamp cabinet using the French cleats, and I really like the versatility it gives.
