Pellet quality.

I have used a good high quality pellet for the last 3 years. Problem is the place I buy them from is not real close.

Has anybody used Home Depot or lowes pellets? They ARE significantly cheaper.

I have found very little difference between brands in my stove...

I bought some from Home Depot a last year when my regular place had problems, they didn't burn as hot and made a lot more ash.

One thing that I have learned about pellets. There are basically two types... soft wood, and hard wood. I always buy the hard wood pellets. You will get more ash and less BTU's out of the soft wood than you will the hard wood.

I'm sure that HD store in different regions have varying suppliers of pellets. here in Nor Cal, my local store stocks BLAZER pellets from Oregon. They are softwood (Douglas Fir) and do produce quite a bit of ash.

Since I don't have to cash this year to buy them in bulk (or a way to transport, since my truck is down) I plan to try a few bags at a time from different suppliers to see if there is anything better available here. The local TSC store carries Lignetics, I believe. I don't like buying there because they store them outside and they are always damp.

My old Trail Blazer stove is a single-fan pressurized firebox design and is probably less efficient than the newer models, but it will run directly on 12VDC. Handy for power failures.
