I think its a great idea for the garage. For home heat, theyre not too effective considering the price of pellets. But, a garage wouldnt be heated 24/7 - so itd probably work out well.
Pellet prices will probably come back down a bit eventually anyways.

Pellet prices in the midwest are pretty reasonable... I pay between $3.50 and $4.30 depending on the product.... even less in the spring. I heat my house with pellet heat and it saves me 60% over natural gas. generally I burn one bag per day and a little more when it's below zero.

I also have two friends who use pellet heat intheir shops.

Thats not bad..Here its around $7/bag. Making it the same or a little more expensive that heating oil or Propane. They used to be a couple bucks a bag. The stoves were cheaper too. Was a neat hidden secret. Now that everyone knows about it, the funs over :(

A few years back, the weather turned COLD after having warmed early and the local stores had not ordered pellets. Those that had them were charging a lot of $$$$ for the few bags they had left. One of my friends found that there is a animal bedding that is made of the same material and formed into pellets. Bought a pallet of it at the feed store, and was able to heat his house for pennies. How, he only buys the animal bedding to use in the stove.

I'd like to find a used Pellet stove, seems like a good way to heat. Pellet manufacturers in Maine have lost alot of their raw materials as Lumber prices have dropped so sawmills have shut down or layed off. Price per ton was around 300 last year.

I have one. I found it is the warehouse cleaning up last week. I just went and looked, the firebox has no ash, so I assume it has not been used. It is a Counrtry Flame, that company was bought out by Buck Stove. It is an early model, around 1984 or so. Manual lighting. It has been unboxed, so the outside it dirty and should be repainted. I would take $750.00.

Sorry, selling something is my first post. But I just found this place yesterday, and just reading posts, and this one cought my eye.
