Hi!
I'm new to this forum and I've been trying to find some information regarding an old Penens Corp. 1261 3/8" drive ratchet that was my Dad's. This ratchet has been around for as long as I can remember and I'm 55 years old. So my guess is it's at least that old, if not older. I've found a lot of info regarding Penens and some of their other ratchets/model #s, but so far this is the closet I've come to finding(almost) the same ratchet. Same head & handle design with the same mod. # just a different brand name; Fleet versus Penens. I'll (try to) post a couple of pics and see if someone can give me some idea of when this tool was made and any other info they might have.

BTW; here is a link to the thread I made refernce to comparing the Fleet 1261 ratchet to the Penens 1261. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133351

Thanks!
Aaron
(To the moderators; I posted this first in an old thread regarding Fleet ratchets but thought it might be better to start a new thread. So if you need to delete that post I understand.)

Wish I knew a first and last mfg date for those ratchets.
I did notice yours is assambled with the cover plates reversed. In the body of the ratchet there is a cut out for the selector lever. Yours is reversed so the lever scrapes against the rim of the ratchet.

That's funny. I never noticed that. But I have noticed the cut-out on what I thought was the underneath side of the handle. I had this ratchet apart at one time to clean and lube it (which it needed very badly) and it's possible that I reassembled it this way, but I'm pretty sure I put it back together the way it came apart. I'll have to take a look at that when I get home!!

Thanks!!

Well, I figured out why this ratchet is assembled the way it is. I took it apart and reassembled it with the selector lever on the side of the handle with the cut-out and it jams. After reassembling it multiple times thinking I was doing something wrong, I finally, by accident, figured out the problem. By raising up on the selector lever and applying a little pressure it works great. So I guess there is enough wear on the parts that they don't mesh like they should and it jams. So needless to say I put it back together the way it was (like in the pics) and it works great.

Sorry for responding to an old post but I have a Penens 3/8” ratchet as well. Similar story as this was my Dads and I remember him using when I was youngster. Given that I am nearly 68 I am sure he had it prior to my birth. Brings back some great memories - thanks for sharing!
