Not what are they, but who are they? 
I mean, who was this particular series made by?
I’ve never had a whole lot of interest in the Penncraft brand. I own a bunch of ratchets, sockets, and misc.. Most everything socketry is New Britain, and there’s tons of it.
These caught my eye the other day on ebay. It was one of those moments like ”Why haven’t I noticed this before? Or have I?”.
The ratchet sure looks like a Craftsman (ok, Easco) clone. I seem to think I might have seen them show up before, but if so, it’s been a while. The breaker bar and extensions could probably pass for Craftsman =V= stuff as well, though I haven’t done any side by side comparisons yet.
The sockets are heavy as heck, and sure look like older Cornwell.
That’s what makes this even more interesting, take a look inside the sockets.
I went in search of more Penncraft with chevron stampings, and all that turned up was the 3/8” breaker bar. The two breaker bar handles are a match, however the 3/8 drive end doesn’t follow suit. I’m not particularly convinced it’s original to the handle. The pin looks slightly short. Idk, I could be way off in this.
So can anybody tell me more about these mystery Penncraft with chevrons and no part numbers? They would have to be near the early end of things I imagine. JCPenney with the same tools as Sears? Say it ain’t so!
